Veralda Winery, located in the celebrated wine-growing area of Northern Istria, on the picturesque Buje Hills between Buje and Brtonigla. Their family tradition began in 1938 with 10 hectares of land dedicated to various crops before they focused exclusively on vine and olive cultivation.
Vinarija Veralda is situated in the renowned Bujskih brežuljaka of northern Istria, between Buja and Brtonigla. The winery’s name reflects the vineyard’s position, as the surname Visintin is widely recognized in the region.
The family tradition of winemaking began in 1938 on approximately ten hectares of land, initially cultivating both vineyards and other crops. Over time, the focus shifted solely to grape growing and olive cultivation. Veralda proudly holds the title of the best red wine in the world, awarded the “Platinum Best in Show” in London in 2016 for its Teran variety. This recognition elevated both the Teran grape and the Istrian region to the forefront of the global wine scene. Veralda is also known for its innovative spirit, having introduced the first Rosé made from Teran, setting a new standard in the production of Istrian Rosé and sparkling wines. The winery embodies authenticity, tradition, and an innovative style.
The Bujski brežuljci, known for producing high-quality wines for centuries, provides the perfect environment for Veralda’s vineyards. Located on gently sloping, south-facing hills at an altitude of 120 to 220 meters, the vineyards benefit from optimal sun exposure, proximity to the sea (about 7 km), and good ventilation, which helps prevent grape diseases. The deep, clay-limestone soil retains moisture, especially during dry summers, leading to high extract concentrations and specific mineral characteristics in the grapes. Currently, the winery manages 26 hectares of vineyards, cultivated in an ecological spirit to preserve the environment and maintain biodiversity.
