Their dedication to winemaking is epitomized in the renowned Cuvée Prestige, which was awarded the best sparkling wine at The Flute Stars competition. This exceptional wine has aged for an impressive 62 months on lees, showcasing their commitment to quality.

Location

Kurtalj Winery is nestled between Jastrebarsko and Samobor in the enchanting region of Mount Plešivica. This picturesque area is known for its rolling hills and fertile lands, providing an ideal setting for viticulture and winemaking.

The Story

The story of the Kurtalj family is rooted in generations of dedication to viticulture, winemaking, and hospitality. Their historical estate is one of the oldest buildings in Plešivica, showcasing the rich cultural and architectural heritage of the region. The house represents a rare example of classicist residential architecture, and its cellars still age wine in traditional oak barrels, maintaining a connection to the past while embracing modern practices.

Vineyard

The Kurtalj family cultivates 3.5 hectares (8.6 acres) of modern vineyards situated in the sunniest locations of Mount Plešivica, including Hrvojka, Stošinec, and Veselnica. They grow a diverse range of grape varieties, such as Welschriesling, Sylvaner, Rhine Riesling, Pinot Gris, Portugieser, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, alongside traditional regional varieties like Kraljevina, Ranfol (Štajerska belina), and Veltliner, which are often used for cuvées. Since 2007, the Kurtalj family has been producing sparkling wines using the classic method of bottle fermentation, showcasing their commitment to quality and tradition.
