Štampar Winery is situated in the idyllic hills of Međimurje, on the border of Croatia and Slovenia. This picturesque region, approximately 300 meters above sea level, offers a unique terroir that is cherished by wine connoisseurs worldwide. The winery’s vineyards, spanning around ten hectares, thrive in the rolling landscapes of Sveti Urban and Krpec, away from urban noise and pollution.
The roots of Štampar Winery date back to June 27, 1913, when master craftsman Ištvan Grabar and winemaker Andraš Novak raised their glasses in celebration of the completed fresco above the entrance to the first cellar. It wasn’t until the 1920s, with the arrival of the Štampar family, that the winery began to take on a distinctive character. The first generation of Štampars infused passion and dedication into the vineyards, setting the foundation for what would become a legacy of fine wines. From humble beginnings with only 3,000 vines and a single old oak press, the winery has grown to produce exceptional, award-winning wines from over ten representative grape varieties native to the Međimurje wine region.
The vineyards of Štampar Winery flourish in a continental climate characterized by cold winters and warm summers, with excellent humidity levels. The terroir features clay soils, occasionally mixed with sandy sediment and stony layers, which retain moisture even during dry periods. The favorable conditions allow for high-quality yields of grape varieties such as Pušipel, Graševina, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Cabernet Sauvignon, among others. The winery practices meticulous vineyard management, ensuring each harvest meets the high standards expected by their discerning clientele.
